Out Of Hours Sampling
Detection of organisms in conventional systems may be limited due to number of technical and logistical factors. Of particular concern to microbiologists and clinicians is the potentially serious delay accruing due to out of hours sampling.
This is due to Patients presenting and blood being taken, often in the middle of the night when the Microbiology Laboratory is closed.
Other common issues communicated by Scientists include a significant lag-phase occurring in cultures if samples are not inoculated into suitable culture medium immediately after the sample has been taken and reduce viability of the organisms (leading to longer detection times) for samples held in sub-optimal conditions.
This simple conflict of working patterns between the ward and the laboratory, or due to distances between the point of care and central facility creates inefficiency in clinical delivery, potentially life threatening situations, and raises overall healthcare costs.
Bactest has overcome these most fundamental issues with technology that can potentially revolutionise working practices.
