Safety Features

  • Strong, durable design of culture vessel.
  • High-strength plastic construction unlike a conventional bottle.
  • Totally enclosed culture system during normal operation.
  • Pressure equilibration mechanism during inoculation negates any difference between internal and external pressure when the syringe is depressed, therefore removing any possibility of associated microbial aerosols or contamination from atmospheric ingress.
  • Automatic equilibration system incorporating a highly efficient vent filter brings the culture vessel back to atmospheric if elevated pressures are detected.
  • Non-Invasive detection system does not require direct access to external sensors and has a safety barrier design feature.
  • Non-Invasive mixing system removes potential for leaks.
  • Door closure following inoculation to restrict access to “contaminated” entry port septum.
  • Ergonomically designed handle takes the hand away from the inoculation port.
  • Can be used in conjunction with our “B-Safe”™ safety barrier work station.
  • Lid and septum carrier designed to reduce slippage of needle towards the operator’s hand.
  • Individual silo and “Wet Sensor” contains and detects the unlikely event of a leak within the instrument allowing safe removal of entire culture silo without disturbing other cultures.

  • Needlestick accidents occur when healthcare workers jab themselves or a colleague with a needle, or other sharp medical device, which is contaminated with potentially infected blood.

Second only to back-injuries as a cause of occupational injury amongst NHS workers, an ongoing RCN surveillance project suggests that as many as 100,000 needlestick accidents occur in the UK every year.
