Principles
Tests are run using the combination technologies of instrument and disposable culture vessel. The tests are designed for ease of use and require little training :
- The self-contained instrument monitors and controls the conditions within complimentary culture vessels.
- Two culture vessels, one aerobic and one anaerobic (comprising a single clinical determination), or one Control and one Test (for comparative applications) are maintained and monitored by each module.
- Samples are added to the culture vessels which contain appropriate culture medium to promote rapid growth of microbial contaminants.
- The Instrument module maintains and optimises critical growth conditions to allow rapid proliferation of micro-organisms.
- Microbial growth and metabolism results in sensitive pressure transients within the culture vessel.
- Using precision pressure measurements and calculating with reference to an internal algorithm, the modules monitor pressure transients associated with the growth of micro-organisms.
- Modules continually communicate the status of the culture (positive or negative).
